D1.4 Order categories of data from greatest to least frequency for various data sets displayed in tally tables, concrete graphs, and pictographs.

Skill: Ordering Categories of Data

Arranging categories according to their frequency in a tally table, concrete graph, or pictograph provides students with skills they will need in later grades to determine the mode of a data set.

Knowledge: Frequency

The frequency of a category is its number of occurrences. The frequency of data in a tally table is obtained by counting tally marks and should correspond to the frequencies of the same categories in a graph. The category with the highest frequency has the most marks in a tally table, the most objects in a concrete graph, and the most pictures in a pictograph.
