Activity: Talking Picture (Repeating and Growing Patterns)


Prepare cards using the following images. Form teams of three, and hand out the cards to each team. The students must "make the images speak" in mathematical language, using the appropriate vocabulary: patterns, terms, growing/shrinking, term position, etc.

Each team is responsible for presenting and explaining one image. Support students so that vocabulary is accurate, and question team members as needed.

  • Where do you see the pattern?
  • Is the pattern repeating?
  • Is the pattern growing/shrinking? Why?
